Top Five Posts in HCAD’s First Five Months

Today is the fifth month anniversary of Home Clipart Animal Deer. It seems like it’s been forever, but it hasn’t even been half a year yet. Hmm, weird.

Well, considering we’ve updated almost every single day in the past five months (we have missed about six of them), we’ve racked up quite the impressive backlog of posts. Not all of them are created equally, though, at least in the eyes of readers. So what are the Top Five posts we’ve gotten so far?

(Read on so you can see them!)

[Movie Club] Contrasting World Designs in “The Phantom Menace”

(Foreword: All screencaps courtesy of http://starwarsscreencaps.com/. This was originally supposed to come out on another website, but I am posting it here instead. It serves as a companion to my Movie Club articles on Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, so it is probably fitting that it goes here.)

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is criticized sometimes for its visual style. Being a prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy, it seems to have more advanced technology and a cleaner society, both of which seem contradictory to the idea of it being a prequel in the first place. Moreover, many lamented the absence of the original trilogy’s “used universe” aesthetic design, where everything looked worn-down, and something that would exist in everyday life.

[Movie Club] My Ticket Stub Collection

[Movie Club] My Ticket Stub Collection

I’ve been keeping track of all my ticket stubs for movies for the last several years. I don’t remember exactly why, but I decided to take them out and order them chronologically just to see how many I had.

Instead of a traditional movie club essay, I just wanted to give you a picture of my movie-going habits from about the time that I could drive all the way to present. There are several missing, most notably a few midnight movie premieres that I seem to have lost including Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises, but for the most part this is my theater-going experience summed up into one tidy list.

“Search your feelings, Anakin.”

“Uhg, but master!” Anakin said, sprawled across a zero gravity recliner with a bag of Space Cheetos sitting in his lap. “Just, like, 5 more minutes, man. I’ll search my feelings after this episode.”

Obi-Wan’s foot tapped against the ground like an angry space woodpecker, but Anakin couldn’t hear him over the mouthful of cheese-flavored junk food powder that he was lazily gumming. “If you want to be treated like a Jedi Knight then you need to start acting like one, young man.” Read more

[Movie Club] Home Clipart Animal Deer’s Top 5 Movies of 2015

We have seen a lot of movies this year. Like, tons of movies. Something like 30 a piece, and there are still a bunch that haven’t gone to wide release yet or that we just haven’t had the chance to see. Which ones did you think were the best? Well, we’re going to tell you which ones were the best, so don’t worry yourself with that whole “having an opinion” thing.  If you feel that any movies are missing then I’m sorry you feel that way.

“Honey, can you go check the mail?” Lincoln Chafee asked his wife from the living room. She didn’t answer; she must have gone outside to do some gardening. “Ah, it’s okay. I’ll go do it,” he said.

It was a long trek from the house, and down the driveway, all the way to the mailbox, but Linc was ready to do it!

“Linc is ready to do it, eh…” he said to himself. “That’d be a good slogan…”

He finally made it to his mailbox and opened it. There were a few bills, a letter from his grandkids, and… what was that?

“Your GOLDEN opportunity… Act now… On sale at your local grocery store…Oh my.” This small flier, with an image of C-3PO and a large spaceship behind him, showed several boxes of different brands of cereal, all with various characters on them. But the main attraction of this cereal flier was the proclamation: One of these boxes had a golden ticket that would let the discoverer go to the premiere of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens as the VIP guest!

Lincoln knew exactly what he had to do now.

[Movie Club] “Return of the Jedi”: All Those Damn Aliens Everywhere

Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi had so many damn aliens everywhere. From the opening scenes in Jabba’s Palace all the way to the fireworks celebrations in the Ewok Village, there’s more new creatures and weird-looking dudes than practically every other Star Wars movie combined. If you’re really cynical about it, you’d probably say that it was all a marketing ploy to sell more action figures. But I’ll be optimistic and say that, because of the success of Yoda and other special effects masterworks in A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, ILM and George Lucas decided to go overboard with the costume and effects work and make some crazy-ass shit.
